Korkeasaari Zoo was founded in 1889, and is one of the oldest zoos in the world. The zoo's 150 animal species and almost 1,000 plant species tell about the diversity of nature. About a third of Korkeasaari's animal species are endangered.

In Korkeasaari, endangered species are grown in order to protect them and ensure their survival. Most of Korkeasaari's animals were born either in Korkeasaari or in other zoos. Every visitor to Korkeasaari is involved in conservation work: by visiting, you support Korkeasaari's work in biodiversity protection, environmental education and research of endangered species, as well as restoration to nature.

Korkeasaari is a popular excursion destination, and the island also has a souvenir shop, two restaurants and kiosks, and the opportunity to eat your own snacks at, for example, barbecue places.
